Rodgren, Staffan. "Android Map Application." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för informationsteknologi, 2012. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-177260.

Nowadays people use maps everyday in many situations. Maps are available and free. What was expensive and required the user to get a paper copy in a shop is now available on any Smartphone. Not only maps but location-related information visible on the maps is an obvious feature. This work is an application of opportunistic networking for the spreading of maps and location-related data in an ad-hoc, distributed fashion. The system can also add user-created information to the map in form of points of interest. The result is a best effort service for spreading of maps and points of interest. The exchange of local maps and location-related user data is done on the basis of the user position. In particular, each user receives the portion of the map containing his/her surroundings along with other information in form of points of interest.

Mobile application development is one of the recent trends in computing Industry. Among several existing platforms for mobile, Android is one of the largest platforms in the world that run in several smart phones and tablets from various manufacturers like Google, Motorola, Samsung, HTC etc. Android number game is a simple game application in android targeting the school children to train their mathematical skills and help them to think. The application presents a graphical user interface with several colored bubble balls moving in random directions each with a number on it. The numbers are generated randomly within a specified range. The application allows the user to burst a moving bubble by touching it. The user’s goal is to burst all the bubbles in the ascending order of numbers on them. The application contains multiple levels and the number of bubbles increase as the levels increase. Also, the complexity of the set of numbers on the bubbles increases with increasing levels. Three lives are given to clear all the levels of the game and scores are computed for every correct shot on the ball. Bonus points are also added for clearing every level. The application maintains the top 10 players with their scores.

The number of applications for the Android platform found on Google Play is now over 1 million and there are over 1.5 billion downloads each month . With a low cost of entry the Android platform attracts developers many of which do not have the necessary competence or experience to develop secure applications. Weassess 20 Android applications using a custom testing methodology based on the OWASP Mobile Project and look for common vulnerabilities. We decompileapplications using Dare and review the source codemanually as well as using static and dynamic analysis to look for vulnerabilities. We also evaluate existing vulnerability classifications and argue which onesare most fitting to apply to Android vulnerabilities for educational and research purposes. We then categorize our findings according to OWASP MobileTop 10 and present mitigation strategies for each category as a whole. Finally,we argue the implications of the vulnerabilities to end-users.

Burgos, Peter.

This project is made for creating a stabil and useful mobile application developed in Java. The purpose of this project is to make the access and communication easier between the student and the student portal. The product of this project is the unofficial app of Mid Sweden University, called Mittuniversitetets Android-app, that in first hand is limited to Android-devices. By doing research, both by letting students answer a survey online on Mid Sweden University's student portal and by asking student physically at Mid Sweden University campus Sundsvall, the investigation tells which parts of the student portal students would like to have in the mobile application and it is according to those answers that the direction of the application has been developed. The product, which is the application, is considered complete when the students are able to for exempel reach their information and get the information presented in a good way. Three different suggestions for a solution is given and by comparing the benefits of those only one solution is chosen. The solution chosen is ”direct-connection as solution”. To be able to give the reader better basical and understandable knowledge some parts are explained in more detail in this report. The report also shows that the access to the student portal is more effective now that only 5 taps are required by using the Mid Sweden University application to get a students information instead of 24 taps by using the web-browser on the cellphone. All goals in this thesis is considered accomplished and screenshots shows this in the report. Finally there is also suggestions for some future works given in this report.

Testing is an important step in the software development process in order to increase the reliability of the software. There are a number of different methods available to test software that use different approaches to find errors, all with different requirements and possible results. In this thesis we have performed a series of tests on our own mobile application developed for the Android platform. The thesis starts with a theory section in which most of the important terms for software testing are described. Afterwards our own application and test cases are presented. The results of our tests along with our experiences are reviewed and compared to existing studies and literature in the field of testing. The test cases have helped us find a number of faults in our source code that we had not found before. We have discovered that automated testing for Android is a field where there are a lot of good tools, although these are not often used in practice. We believe the app development process could be improved greatly by regularly putting the software through automated testing systems.

The aim of the project is to develop an Android application that lets its users to send notifications in case of an emergency or a panic situation. The users can send multiple text messages and emails on the press of a single button. The phone numbers, email ids and the contents of the text and email messages can be set from within the application. The text messages and emails sent, along with the content, also have the last known location of the user. This is very helpful in tracking the whereabouts of the person. The user can also call 911 directly from within the application, if the nature of the situation demands it. Additionally the user of the application may allow the app to track their location. If this option is selected, the application fetches the device’s location at about every 15 minutes and stores it in a database. This information is very useful and can be used in a variety of ways. One such use of the location data is from within the Android app where the user can view a map that shows their location history over a period of time for a particular day.

Multiple new services such as “Mina utgifter” and “Smartbudget” show that there is an increased interest among consumers to plan their economy. Groceries represent a large part of the average households budget and is thereby an important thing that can make a large difference in every households economy. This thesis will examine the possibilities to compare food prices with help of an Android application and by taking pictures of the text on receipts. The text will then be processed and sorted to get the necessary data which later can be saved into a database. Premade algorithms and OCR-engines have been evaluated and implemented directly into the Android application by using so called C-Libraries. This makes it possible without major efforts to further develop the application for IOS or Windows Phone. This project and the Android application show the possibilities to use premade libraries and the phones camera to extract and save the necessary information that is relevant for consumers.

Adamo, Jr David T. "Online Construction of Android Application Test Suites." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2017. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc1062844/.

Mobile applications play an important role in the dissemination of computing and information resources. They are often used in domains such as mobile banking, e-commerce, and health monitoring. Cost-effective testing techniques in these domains are critical. This dissertation contributes novel techniques for automatic construction of mobile application test suites. In particular, this work provides solutions that focus on the prohibitively large number of possible event sequences that must be sampled in GUI-based mobile applications. This work makes three major contributions: (1) an automated GUI testing tool, Autodroid, that implements a novel online approach to automatic construction of Android application test suites (2) probabilistic and combinatorial-based algorithms that systematically sample the input space of Android applications to generate test suites with GUI/context events and (3) empirical studies to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of our techniques on real-world Android applications. Our experiments show that our techniques achieve better code coverage and event coverage compared to random test generation. We demonstrate that our techniques are useful for automatic construction of Android application test suites in the absence of source code and preexisting abstract models of an Application Under Test (AUT). The insights derived from our empirical studies provide guidance to researchers and practitioners involved in the development of automated GUI testing tools for Android applications.

There has been an enormous growth in the usage of smartphones in recent times. Smartphones are not limited to communication purposes. It has various applications designed as per the daily requirements of humans such as web-searching, online shopping, bank transactions, games, etc. With the increase in the usage of the smartphone, the more useful information is captured and stored by it, which raises the question of security. The goal of this research is to develop two android applications. One is a sensor detector application and the second is a screen lock application. The first application will help the user to identify all the hidden sensors and working sensors on the mobile phone. This application even describes the features and usage of every sensor in detail. Using a graphical description of each sensor which depicts the behaviour of each sensor as per environment/movement. The second application is designed using a combination of two sensors. Screen lock applications contain two main factors. One is to work properly in all cases and efficiently do the functions that are required to do. The second is to maintain a smooth inner system interaction because in addition to locking the screen this application should make sure to hide the display of all the other applications without closing the process of these applications. With the increase in the usage of the smartphone, it becomes difficult for older generations to memorize the security pattern techniques and use them. This thesis develops a simple technique in the mobile authentication android application. The thesis is developed on the Android studio platform. The background functionality of the app is coded in java using android SDK tool and frontend of the application is designed using XML files. The GENYMOTION emulator and a mobile phone are used to test the output.

It is therefore beneficial to release a product on several platforms to reach more customers. Two of the most popular platforms for smartphones are the iOS and Android operating systems. The aim of the thesis is to create a full portation of an iPhone application to the Android platform, based upon the requirement specification and source code for the iPhone application. Making changes to better suit the Android platform where needed. The application being ported fetches truck travel data from a web service and visualizes the data for the user. The results show that the portation was successful even though some components did not have exact equivalents. This was solved by creating something from Slight changes was performed to accommodate the differences between the two platforms e.g. incorporating the back button.

Sjöberg, Alexander, and Emil Larsson.

The goal of the project has been to develop an Android application whose function is to calculate the necessary transactions, minimized in number, to resolve a complex debt situation within a group of individuals. These types of situations frequently occur in everyday life, for example when a group of friends cook dinner together and different people pay for various expenses such as food and beverages. The work resulted in the application SplitIt, a stylish and easy-to-use application that meets the desired specifications. Uncertainties exist however, whether the algorithm thatcalculates the transactions is optimized regarding the minimum number oftransactions required. Some measures should be taken before the product is launched on the Android Market. The development of icons, for example, has been put to the side with the intention to spend more time on other parts of the user interface and algorithm development. Splitit has been developed by studying similar applications on the Android Market and by carefully considering usability. Before starting the implementation of the application, a user study was conducted in which sketches of the proposed user interface was designed and a test panel had the opportunity to navigate through the application. The study clarified unclear as well as appealing parts of the user interface.

In recent years, with the arrival of information era and the rapid development of the medical health system, there has been a trend for hospitals and medical care centers to record the patients’ medical record electronically rather than by means of old-fashioned paper-based method. It has indeed reduced the workload of medical workers and it simplifies the procedure within the medical system. It is worth mentioning that the growth of mobile medical care is beginning to catch up as a consequence of the incredible popularization of mobile networks and the broad use of mobile devices. A significant possibility is that in the coming years, mobile medical care applications will play a large part of the whole electronic medical care system. This project will mainly focus on presenting the process of developing an Android application of doctor’s end in the electronic healthcare system which makes it possible for doctors to retrieve data from their patients and diagnose them as well as setting up appointments using mobile devices. The development for the doctor’s end application will follow the waterfall development methodology. In this report the functions of the doctor’s end application will be introduced, and how these functions are realized will also be displayed in detail. After the implementation, the app will be tested on an Android device emulator and on real Android mobile devices in order to evaluate their performance. In addition, it will be tested by mobile phone specialists in relation to gathering feedback. Finally, a reasonable conclusion will be drawn with regards to this project including ethical issues.

The growing needs of different products is only being increased from day to day and among these numerous products that each person plan to purchase, it has become a tedious task to keep track of all the products that should be purchased. One such important thing is that, everyone wish to keep track of an item when the location associated with the item is nearby. We have many To-Do applications where we can just note down our day to day needs and things to get. But we might face situations like forgetting to keep track of what we have in our To Do list related to buying an item and when the location associated to the item is nearby, there are high possibilities that we overlook and just forget about purchasing these items. These situations occurred most of the times when I did a small survey among my friends. This difficulty has lead me to rethink and find a solution. The usage of smart phones has become very common these days. Android market which is an open source has helped many people to develop their own applications and these could easily be run on Android smart phones. I thought of developing an android application that helps in tracking not only the To-Do list of the items that a person tracks down to purchase but also stores the location where that item can be purchased. This To-Do app then provide notifications when a person is nearby the location associated with the item. It also triggers an alarm so that the user can easily remember what item he has planned to get in that particular location. The proposed app tries to solve most of the problems by providing an intuitive interface to the user where the user can note down all their planned purchases with location of the products and get reminders about it when passing through that location. The Near Me application is about tracking the items to be purchased or the tasks that are to be done specific to the location. Each to-do item is associated with a date, location and notes. Storing the locations in the application helps the user with timely notifications and alarms according to the location the user is in and the tasks that should be done in that location. Also these To-Do items can also be synced with online storage application like Dropbox.

Rudraraju, Tejitha. "Elderly support - android application for fall detection and tracking." Kansas State University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2097/17866.

Master of Science
Department of Computing and Information Sciences
Mitchell L. Neilsen
The purpose of the project is to develop an Android application that is capable of detecting possible falls for the elderly. With the advancement of wireless communications, the world has become smarter and there has been increase in use of smart phones. Android, being an open source platform has made it simple for every individual to develop their own applications, which in turn can be used on Android devices. Falls among the elderly are a serious concern for both families as well as medical professionals, since falls are considered to be the eighth leading cause of death in the United States. Untreated fall injuries in adults 65 or older can result in serious risks and health complications, since 20% of falls require immediate medical attention and about one-tenth of the falls result in fractures. Thus, as mentioned, fall detection is a critical event requiring quick and accurate response, especially for elderly people living by themselves. This is the motivation behind developing an elderly support, which detects a fall and alerts the caretaker regarding the information. The elderly support is about tracking the person and notifying the caretaker if there is an occurrence. One of the main features of this Android application is that it notifies the caretaker with alert messages which contain all the necessary information. The alert messages contain useful information about the people in danger, such as his/her geo location and also corresponding directions on a map. In occasions of false alerts, the supervised person is given the ability to estimate the value of importance of a possible alert and to stop it before proceeding with further steps. This project is geared towards supporting the elderly. The mobile application is capable of detecting possible falls and through a user-friendly interface that can be used to alert relatives, doctors, and other people who take care of the elderly.

In this thesis, the newly released framework Ionic 2, which claims to fix the problems cross platform frameworks has suffered from concerning bad performance and bad user experience, has been evaluated. The study has focused on the Android platform by comparing a native developed application to an Ionic 2 developed application. The comparison has been made on performance and user experience. As an extent, Ionic 2 are also compared to another evaluation study made for React Native, to see how the two frameworks differ, both performance wise and user experience wise. The native application performs better in all performance tests, even though the difference only was a few percent for memory usage and battery consumption. In the user tests, the result was of different nature. Some users did not notice any differences between the applications, whilst some had big concerns with how the application behaved. The overall conclusion is that Ionic still has some way to go to compete with native applications. If considering using Ionic 2, you need to be aware of the flaws it has. From the data gathered for this study, React Native is considered to be better than Ionic, but with new updates coming continuously, Ionic is improving every day.

Daniel Andresen
Now a days, people are more inclined towards owning a smart phone. In such a scenario, mobile application development is one of most sought after platforms. Android is one of the largest platforms that run in most smart phones from manufacturers like Samsung, HTC etc. ToGo Cabs is an Android phone cab reservation application which targets the residents of the state of Kansas. While some cab services boast about their cab being just a call away, some other taxi services boast about the punctuality of their service. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, the passengers are just tired of waiting at different locations for the cab that they have just reserved to pick them up and take them home. What we need is a reliable mobile application which reserves a cab for us from a specific place at a certain time and which tells its users the status of the cab in order to keep them from waiting for long hours. ToGo Cabs serves just that purpose. ToGo Cabs allows the users to get a cab from any location in the state of Kansas, even if they seem to be lost. One does not have to spend hours on phone with the cab services to tell them where exactly you are located currently. The Global Positioning System takes care of the current location for the users. This application shows the route to the user, which the cab would take to reach to the destination. Once a user reserves a cab, he is acknowledged with a confirmation number which he can further use to check the cab status. The application provides the user the facility to e-mail or text his confirmation number. The application can also set a reminder notification just 15 minutes before the cab pick-up. The user can also check all the trips that he has made so far, from the application.

Nilsson, Robin. "Penetration testing of Android applications."

The market of Android applications is huge, and in 2019, Google Play users worldwide downloaded 84.3 billion mobile applications. With such a big user base, any security issues could have big negative impacts. That is why penetration testing of Android applications is important and it is also why Google has a bug bounty program where people can submit vulnerability reports on their most downloaded applications. The aim of the project was to assess the security of Android applications from the Google Play Security Reward Program by performing penetration tests on the applications. A threat model of Android applications was made where potential threats were identified. A choice was made to focus on the Spotify Application for Android where threats were given ratings based on risks associated with them in the context of the Spotify Application. Penetration tests were made where testing depth was determined by the ratings associated with the attacks. The results of the tests showed that the Spotify Application is secure, and no test showed any real possibility of exploiting the application. The perhaps biggest potential exploit found is a Denial of Service attack that can be made through a malicious application interacting with the Spotify application. The result doesn’t guarantee that the application isn’t penetrable and further testing is needed to give the result more reliability. The methods used in the project can however act as a template for further research into both Spotify and other Android applications.

Quaresmini, Jimmy. "Location based sports/fitness app : Android app for smartphones." Thesis, KTH, Radio Systems Laboratory (RS Lab), 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-160260.

The City of Stockholm’s budget for sports is 1.6% of the total city budget in 2014. About 60,000, licensed (age 15 and up, about 50%) and younger actively played soccer in Stockholm in 2005. That is roughly 24% of the total number of participants in sports activities in Stockholm’s district. There is a need for a location-based application (commonly abbreviated "app") to help people spontaneously meet for different sports activities. The app developed and analyzed in this thesis will address this need and assist potential participants in organizing sports activities, deciding to participate in these activities, make friends, etc. Not only large team sports will be considered, but sports done in pairs such as tennis and other sports as well that you do with others. Consider a person who has moved to a new city and wants to play football (soccer), but does not know people in this city. This app can help this person find others who would like to play in a quick and easy way by looking at a map and seeing where others would like to participate in this sport, for example at a particular soccer field, using location information concerning the potential participants and this specific field. Apps that use location information have become very common with the widespread use of smartphones. Such an app provides a location-based service. This thesis describes the design and implementation of an Android app with a location-based service and how to set up this app, what technology is needed to get the needed location information, and the programming language used. In addition, the thesis considers users’ needs and how the app caters to those needs. An analysis will be done of how well this app communicates with a database server as the number of users increases, scales. Performance and load on both the server and app will be considered. The performance will be analyzed to see how well it matches the users’ expectations. The app developed in this thesis will be for the Android platform and Apple's iOS (but the focus in the thesis is on the Android-version). This app will communicate with a database server running a Linux OS, an Apache HTTP server, a MySQL database, and using a PHP programming web infrastructure (such a setup of services is commonly called by the acronym LAMP). The app will connect to Facebook and Twitter to exchange information (however, that is outside the scope of this thesis).

Wei, Ran. "ANDROID MOBILE APPLICATION FOR CREST COMMUNITY CHURCH IN RIVERSIDE." CSUSB ScholarWorks, 2014. https://scholarworks.lib.csusb.edu/etd/57.

In recent years, mobile devices have played a significant role in daily life. As a result, Mobile Applications have become very popular. An increasing number of people are using mobile applications to handle an increasing number of personal tasks, as well as for amusement. To date, there are thousands of mobile applications available for a variety of purposes. However, there are very few specifically designed for local church use. Mobile applications are potentially more convenient and easier to operate than normal website for parishioners. Designing and implementing a mobile application for Crest Community Church, in Riverside, based on Android Developer Tools (ADT) and Android Software Development Kit (Android SDK) is this project’s primary objective. The objective of this project is to provide a communications platform where members of Crest Community Church can share news, discuss coming church events, promote and enhance the connectivity of this worship community, and provide mobile access to information not available on their present systems. A distinct feature of this project allows for communication between mobile application and webserver by creating a HTTP URL Connection. As a result, church members can publish news and events in a discussion forum as well as a dialog with other church members in a near real time format. The Crest users can also indicate that posted prayer request has been prayed for. In addition, this new application displays general church information, and provides the address and driving direction for potential visitors. Church members can also check the church’s calendar of events, special meetings and information about the Passion Center for Children ministry. This project has the ability to store and track pertinent information about each user, the content of all discussions, and retains member’s key contact data. This project successfully implemented a church mobile application. It demonstrated that a tailored mobile application can enhance the sense of community via internet for this congregation. It feather shows that mobile applications can greatly assist churches in community with members as well as visitors. The application also expanded the internet footprint of Crest Community Church, and offers other churches an avenue to improve their connectivity for the future.

Pantam, Sneha. "BOOK-HUNT! ANDROID MOBILE APPLICATION USING INDOOR POSITIONING TECHNOLOGY." CSUSB ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.lib.csusb.edu/etd/744.

Indoor Positioning System (IPS) focuses on locating objects inside Buildings. Till date, GPS has helped us obtain accurate locations outdoors. These locations have helped us in many ways like navigating to a destination point, tracking people etc. Indoor Positioning System aims at navigating and tracking objects inside buildings. [1] IndoorAtlas is a technology that works on the theory of Indoor Positioning System. Book-Hunt is an Android mobile application which majorly makes use of IndoorAtlas therefore making use of the technique of indoor tracking. This Android mobile application is designed for Libraries. It is designed specifically for John M. Pfau Library, CSUSB, to help the students locate a book in the Library. When a student selects a book, a marker is pointed towards the book and also on the student’s current location. This application aims at saving time for student searching a particular book in the Library. Book- Hunt makes use of three tools Android Studio, Google Maps and IndoorAtlas

The world is becoming smarter with an increase in efficiency of wireless communication resulting in an accelerated use of smart phones. Open source of Android market gave a chance to individuals to freely develop their own applications which could be run easily on Android smart phones. The purpose of this project is to develop an Android application for managing and tracking a user’s shopping information. The Smart tracker is about tracking the user's purchase of clothes and accessories. The main advantage of this Android app is that it helps to remember the size of clothing purchased. When a user shops at a retail store, he feeds the information pertaining to the fitting of the clothes purchased brand wise, whether it is a correct fit or a bit loose/tight. The data thus entered can be retrieved when he decides to make a purchase in the same store in future. This tremendously decreases the user’s shopping time and makes the experience easier as the right size is already known and hence there is no hassle of using trial rooms to see if the clothes fit. In addition to size, Smart tracker also stores the price at which the item was bought and any additional user comments along with the store location. When data pertaining to a purchased clothing item is entered, the app provides the option to append an image of the item either by capturing a picture through the smart phone’s camera or by uploading an image from the gallery. This helps the user recount the item to which the information corresponds. Another important feature is that tracking of purchases for a family can be personalized, i.e., the shopping information of each family member can be stored separately (especially for kids who can't track their own expense). Additionally, the user can also keep track of money spent on each item/brand/family member. Smart tracker also enables user to create a wish list to remember what they (or a friend) liked but didn't buy in a particular store.

Zhou, Jiawen. "JChord : An Android application helping people learn guitar chords." Thesis, Mittuniversitetet, Avdelningen för informations- och kommunikationssystem, 2016. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:miun:diva-28098.

Nowadays, a lot of interesting and useful and imaginative applications are springing to Android software market. And for guitar fans, some related apps bring great connivence to them, like a guitar tuner can save people from carrying a entity tuner all the time, some apps can simulate a real guitar, and some apps provide some simple lessons allowing people to learn some basic things. But these apps which can teach people, they can't really “monitor ” people, that is, they just give some instructions and hope people would follow them. So my project is to design an app which can detect if users are playing wrong and right real-timely. Guitar chords are always the first for new guitar beginners to learn, and a chord is a set of notes combined together in a regulated way ( get from the music theory having millions of developing ), and 'pitch' is the term for determining if the note different from other notes or noise, so the problem here is to manage the multi-pitch analysis in real time. And it's necessary to know some basics of digital signal processing ( DSP ) because digital signals are always more convenient for computers to analyze compared to analog signals. Then I found an audio processing Java library – TarsosDSP, and try to apply it to my Android project.

Sahlström, Jakob, and Axel Johansson. "Application development for the Android platform : Eniro Friend Finder." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Institutionen för teknikvetenskaper, 1990. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-177075.

This thesis is a an idea that derives from Eniro AB. The idea was to makean application for mobile devices that would make it easier for the user tostay in touch with friends. The application should be able to gather informationof the phone’s contacts by searching Eniro for their phone numberand present the information in a simple and convenient way. Because ofthe authors’ previous experience in Java programming the application wasmade for Android devices. Android provides a software development kitwith necessary tools and documentation for developing applications withthe Java programming language. The result is an application that is able to search Eniro for all contacts inthe phone book and store them in a database. These are then presented inboth a list view and a map view. The list is sorted with the person livingclosest to the user’s location at the top. From the list view the user has theoption to either call the contact or send a text message. The map view containsa map with markers at the contacts’ locations. By clicking the markercertain information will be shown in a window. There are still some bugs to fix and features to implement. Possible improvementsto the application could be functions for finding restaurants andcafes nearby and a less time consuming synchronization. Since the projectwas to be done within a limited period of time and the authors did not haveany previous experience of Android development the application should beconsidered as a prototype.

People are more inclined to use tablets instead of other computing devices due to their portability and ease of use. A number of desktop applications are now becoming available as tablet applications, with increasing demand in the market. Android is one of the largest and most popular open source platforms that offer developers complete access to framework APIs in order to develop innovative tablet applications. The objective of this project is to develop an Android application for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Structural Design Software. The GUI for this software is developed to run on tablet devices powered by Android platform. The main features provided by the User Interface include: • Allowing the input to be saved in ASCII text format and displaying the simulation results in PDF format • Allowing the user to select the type of project or view help contents for the projects • Allowing the user to build the simulation for the selected type of project • Allowing the user to send the simulation results to an e-mail The backend for this software is supposed to replace the old FORTRAN source files with Java source files. FORTRAN to Java translation is performed using the FORTRAN to Java (F2J) translator. F2J is intended to translate old FORTRAN math libraries, but was not completely successful in translating these FORTRAN programs. To accomplish successful translation, some features (such as Common Blocks, IO operations) were removed from the FORTRAN source files before translation. After successful translation, the removed features were added again to the translated Java source files. The simulation results provided by the software are useful to design engineers to develop new structural designs.
